Experts from CASE, Centre for Social and Economic Research, led a specialised workshop in Warsaw at the end of May.
Titled ‘Negotiating regulations for mCDR technology – a simulation workshop’, the session was delivered by Dr Jan Bazyli Klakla, Director of Migration, Social Policy and Development Cooperation, and Karolina Zubel, Environment, Energy and Climate Change Director.
It brought together participants from a wide range of sectors, including academia, public administration, industry, non-governmental organisations and local communities to focus on a negotiation simulation about emerging marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) technologies.
Attendees explored potential regulatory frameworks for ocean‑based CO₂ removal and examined the associated environmental, technical and social challenges. The interactive format offered a valuable opportunity for participants to consider constructive dialogue, negotiate differing perspectives and work towards compromises on complex and interdisciplinary issues.
The workshop contributed to the broader aims of the SEAO2‑CDR project by fostering informed discussion and building shared understanding around future governance needs for ocean‑based climate solutions.
