The second negotiation workshop took place in Madrid as part of the SEAO2-CDR project, hosted by Universidad Pontificia Comillas on Friday 19 June.

The workshop contributed to the project’s work on understanding public and stakeholder perceptions of marine-based carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), and on exploring how different perspectives can inform responsible, transparent and inclusive governance of emerging mCDR approaches.
The workshop successfully brought together stakeholders from public policy, environmental organisations, marine science, business and carbon markets. Participants explored how emerging approaches (including ocean alkalinity enhancement and macroalgae-based CO₂ removal) can be assessed, monitored and governed in an inclusive, transparent and responsible way.
During the workshop we hosted participants from: Spanish Office for Climate Change, IEMed, Greenpeace Spain, Oceana, IMEDEA-CSIC/UIB, Global Factor and MacroCarbon.
